YOU MIGHT HAVE A NUMBER OF QUESTIONS BEFORE JOINING. WE HAVE TRIED OUR BEST TO ANSWER SOME COMMON QUESTIONS HERE. IF YOU STILL HAVE A QUESTION FILL IN THE CONTACT FORM BELOW OR CONTACT US VIA THE CONTACT DETAILS PROVIDED.

Can children learn Taekwon-do?

Of course. Taekwon-do offers a fantastic method of improving fitness. Whether you consider yourself fit, or unfit, Taekwon-do will still have something to offer you.

Can I learn Taekwon-do just to improve my fitness?

Absolutely. Children from the ages of 6 and older are welcome to attend classes.

No. Everyone has to start somewhere. Even the very best had to start at the bottom of the ladder sometime. With regular training, and a focused attitude, you will be surprised what your body can achieve!

Is a high level of fitness required?

Yes. A Dobok (Uniform) is required by the International Taekwon-do Federation in order for students to participate in classes, competitions, gradings, and any other training events. You won’t need to purchase this on your first few lessons though!

Do I need to purchase the uniform & equipment?

Not true. Whilst there are many jumping techniques in Taekwon-do, it is far from the focus of the art. There are over 3,000 techniques available, not all of them include jumping!

I’m no good at jumping. Does this mean I won’t be any good at Taekwon-do?

Oxtoby Martial Arts has access to those responsible for running the ITF England team squad training. We can organise for you to participate in these sessions, with a view to joining the England squad in competing around the world.

What are the possibilities of competing in World championships?

Unlike some martial art schools, Oxtoby Martial Arts takes a strong stance against guaranteeing Black belts within specific time frames, or rewarding higher paying students with Black belts.

How long will it be before I become a black belt?

A Black belt is something to be achieved through hard work and determination from the student, and from their own achievements. Only students who put in the work required will achieve a Black belt. It will never be rewarded for simply participating at a basic level.

Everyone is capable of reaching their Black belt. Whether or not you achieve that level, will be down to the students efforts, and not the size of their wallet or how long they have attended class.

Why don’t you guarantee a black belt like other schools?

Access to 4 nights training a week at one all inclusive fee (you can attend any or all of the classes for the one monthly fee.

What do I get for my training fees?
